The FDI contribution to the Western Balkans’ development: The case of Albania

This thesis is a study conducted on foreign direct investments in the Western Balkans and the contribution they have given to a faster and sustainable development of the area . Starting from the historical events that have left this area back from the rest of Europe , I have reported in detail the reasons that have attracted investments in the area and the effects these have had to support the development . It has been studied quantitatively the structure of foreign direct investments in the various countries of the area and the competitiveness that has led investors in one country than the others . Finally I discussed the case of Albania emphasizing the improvement of conditions in recent years that have attracted much attention of companies and various investment funds from abroad .

Questa è una tesi svolta sullo studio degli investimenti esteri nei Balcani occidentali e il contributo che essi hanno dato per uno sviluppo più rapido e sostenibile dell'area. Partendo dai fatti storici che hanno lasciato quest'area arretrata rispetto al resto d'Europa, ho riportato in dettaglio i motivi che hanno attirato gli investimenti nell'area e gli effetti che questi hanno avuto a sostegno dello sviluppo. E' stato studiato quantitativamente la struttura degli investimenti esteri diretti nei vari paesi dell'area e la competitività che ha portato gli investitori in un paese rispetto agli altri. Infine è stato approfondito il caso dell'Albania sottolineando il miglioramento delle condizioni che negli ultimi anni hanno attirato molto l'attenzione delle imprese e di vari fondi di investimento dall'estero.
