The aim of this thesis is to consider the presence of the so-called Stockholm Syndrome in the kidnapping of Aldo Moro, president of the Christian Democrat Party, at the hands of the Red Brigades in Rome in 1978. The thesis starts with an analysis of the Stockholm Syndrome through the study and evaluation of scientific work produced on the topic, then of the diagnostic and scientific criteria and the technical-evaluative problems which regard the syndrome. The thesis then moves on to an analysis of the historical event, with an in-depth look at the aspects of the case which have still not been cleared up, as well as the historical and political context of the period in which the kidnapping took place, and the historical and political figure of Aldo Moro. The next stage is an evaluation of the documents, writings and opinions produced at the time by experts called on to work on the case, who claimed to have found the presence of the Stockholm Syndrome in Aldo Moro. This is followed by a contextual evaluation of this idea, again based on the historical documents which were received at the time of the event, or have since been found. The thesis concludes with the opinion that, considering the documents studied and analysed, it is not possible to diagnose Aldo Moro as having suffered from the Stockholm Syndrome for various reasons, including the impossibility of making such a diagnosis without direct interviews with the victim, who was killed without being released, as well as the inevitable bias of a diagnosis based on only a part of the writings produced by Aldo Moro during his imprisonment and on the recent revelations of some of the experts who worked on the case at the time.
