Abstract
Cross-cultural actions nowadays are an investable process in a global development where distances seem ever smaller through global professional networking, media circulation, the transmission of models, and technologies. Shanghai is an interesting case of study for its unique geopolitical environment representing the collision, conflict, digestion, and fusion of foreign architectural culture. Italian art, architecture, and design have defined civilization's evolution and, starting from Rinascimento and Barocco, have always represented a constant impulse and source of inspiration for cultures and arts worldwide. In modernism time, Italy is a universal leader in projecting thanks to the unmistakable design of its products: from the interior design to the fashion world to several other fields. Italy provides a rising creative contribution from industrial design to environmental engineering from urban planning to architectonical design. In many situations, China had demonstrated to appreciate and decided to rely on Italian design, and it is currently a new reality in the architectonic scenery of many Chinese cities as Shanghai. The significance of this research work is studying how the Italian architects work on the territory to know their situation in the city, understand how they solve the cultural gap and what the Italian architecture real can offer to the Chinese contemporary city design. Focusing this work on the architectonic approach that the Italian architect use working in an urban and social fabric as shanghai's one and the choices deriving from that. Their architectonic approaches speak the Italian language, can be found themes in which the Italian nature of the project is revealed: the conception of a human scale that determines a lifestyle, cultural, historical, and geographical contextualization, the qualitative aesthetic details, and the creativity of innovative design. The research part will be carried out starting from an investigation focused on analyzing the numbers linked to Italian studios to obtain a list of projects and designers Shanghai-based with a particular concentration on their field of interest: from architecture to urbanism and interior design. The aim is to discuss each different project's pros and cons and define the different approaches. Figured out which are the best approaches, they will be the starting point for the design project: a proposal for a new solution for the Italian pavilion of the Shanghai expo 2010 by the Italian Giampaolo Imbrighi. The "Shanghai Italian Center" manifests, in architecture and its functions, a reality dedicated to promoting cultural and economic relations between China and Italy, which is a symbol of what Italian architecture really can offer to contemporary Chinese design.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
