Infections of the oral cavity, head, and neck remain a challenging problem due to the complex anatomy and potentially lethal complications. This is a retrospective, observational study of patients admitted to the Department of Otorhinolaryngology over a period of ten years (between December 2009 and February 2020). The aim of this preliminary investigation was to review the experience with infections of the oral cavity, head, and neck at Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo Hospital, assess the magnitude of the problem in this center, compare it to the experiences in the available literature, and to provide a basis for studying changing trends within our patient population.
