Among the fastest growing industries in the recent years, we certainly find the cryptocurrency sector. Cryptocurrencies, together with blockchain technology, have given rise to an industry full of highly innovative technological projects. Today, the ecosystem that revolves around the use of cryptocurrencies is vast, as well as the subject of discussion in various social and technological sciences (computer science, economics, finance, entrepreneurship, law and regulation are all fields of study involved in the cryptocurrency landscape). Our analysis aims at providing a clear overview of the sector and the related technologies by studying the context and evolution of the industry over time. The sample under study includes firms operating in submarkets connected to cryptocurrencies and distributed all over the world. We have chosen to focus our analysis on the survival of firms within the industry to identify any patterns characterizing the vast ecosystem of cryptocurrencies. The empirical evidence identified shows that technological change and the geographical location (different jurisdictions) in which firms operate have a significant impact on their survival within the industry.

Abstract
The empirical evidence identified shows that technological change and the geographical location (different jurisdictions) in which firms operate have a significant impact on their survival within the industry.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
