The study of the human mind has always fascinated human beings, who made more and more deeply studies over the time, coming to overcome the Aristotelian dualism (mind vs. body) to come up to a definition of "embodied mind" concept. In particular, recent years have seen an increase of researches and practices dedicated to the role of consciousness. Among these, the mindfulness practices can cover different fields of intervention and sports. The aim of this thesis is to explore these dynamics relying on the literature and on recent evidence regarding the role of consciousness and mindfulness benefits in sports and some particular disciplines. The thesis is the result of an analysis of various studied published in scientific journals (accessed through online databases). From the extrapolated review, some main aspects for the athlete are evident: on the one hand, the ability to act consciously and so without distractions and regulating automatisms; on the other hand, the role of emotional aspects and in particular anxiety and its facets. In sports practice, it has been highlighted how the improvement of athletes' psychological conditions leads to a consequent enhancement of competitive performance. Experiences of performance anxiety can be modified by an increase of awareness through the use of mindfulness and concentration techniques. This results in a reduction of negative thoughts, increased focus, and mental and physical benefit of individuals. Given the obvious benefits, it is hoped that mindfulness will find increasing application in sports as well.

Abstract
Given the obvious benefits, it is hoped that mindfulness will find increasing application in sports as well.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
