Since the first discovery of natural gas in the Israeli offshore territory in 2008, the countries boarding the Mediterranean Sea started to be interested in the research and the exploitment of any other natural gas deposits, which were discovered later in Egyptian and Cypriot offshores. The race for the appropriation of these resources is changing some of the balances in the region and boosting the tensions between different regional actors. However, the recent escalation in tension and military demonstrations suggests that the rivalry goes further than the energy-related dynamics by affecting both power projection and security logics. In fact, over the last decade the Eastern Mediterranean has been the background of mass political uprisings (in Libya,Tunisia, Egypt and Syria), social changes and regional disorders, civil wars and border disputes which changed the security state of the region. The purpose of this research is to understand the scramble for Mediterranean energy competition as a relevant factor that may affect security. Turkey in particular is the main subject of this research. Ankara is pursuing an assertive approach, which could lead to different outcomes in the Eastern Mediterranean, since it involves many aspects of national security and unresolved disputes. Consequently, this work aims to comprehend the reasons of the adoption of a new foreign approach in this country. To do that, it starts introducing the doctrines that guided the Turkish foreign policy during the last 20 years, it goes further by analysing a deep cooperation achieved by Turkey with Azerbaijan and then analyses the plethora of competing interests of regional and international players which established many cooperative and competitive dynamics about the geopolitical topic.

Abstract
To do that, it starts introducing the doctrines that guided the Turkish foreign policy during the last 20 years, it goes further by analysing a deep cooperation achieved by Turkey with Azerbaijan and then analyses the plethora of competing interests of regional and international players which established many cooperative and competitive dynamics about the geopolitical topic.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
