Vascular access procedures are a common and important part of paediatric surgical practice.Paediatric vascular access presents numerous challenges to the paediatric surgeon. In obtaining access, the paediatric surgeon must make several important preoperative decisions – what type of access to obtain, the size and number of lumens required, and where to place the catheter. Therefore, sound knowledge of the indications, contraindications, advantages, and disadvantages of different types of access is required to provide the best care for the patient. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the effects of certain variables in vascular access line insertion in paediatric population.
