My dissertation aims at analysing electronic cigarettes as a possible technique to terminate addiction to smoke, in view of the failure of previously entertained therapies. In the introduction, the report on smokers in Italy is presented along with the theme of smoke and all related issues, such as the main detoxifying techniques, both pharmacological and behavioural, currently in use. The dissertation revolves around the debate surrounding electronic cigarettes. The positions of several health institutions at national and global level are considered, among them the WHO, the IARC, the AHA and the ISS, along with the opinion of leading specialists such as Umberto Veronesi, Riccardo Polosa and Umberto Tirelli. The conflict between the traditional cigarette industry and the innovating producers of electronic cigarettes is outlined, as well as the first Cochrane review. As France allows cannabis electronic cigarettes to go on sale, some perspectives for the future are presented, imagining Italy as a smoke-free country, and listing the strategies that may lead to that endgame.

Abstract
As France allows cannabis electronic cigarettes to go on sale, some perspectives for the future are presented, imagining Italy as a smoke-free country, and listing the strategies that may lead to that endgame.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
