Development of Sanitation Safety Plan for the wastewater treatment plant of Iringa (Tanzania).

The field mission of the master thesis was carried out in Iringa (Tanzania). In this phase data on the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) were collected and microbiological analysis of underground water and wastewater were carried out. Results of analysis of underground water supported the assessment of the risk for human health associated with basic sanitation. Results of analysis of wastewater and collected data were used to develop a Sanitation Safety Plan for the WWTP, allowing the assessment of risk associated to the plant and the improvement of the operation and maintenance manual.

Elaborazione di un Sanitation Safety Plan per l'impianto di trattamento delle acque reflue di Iringa (Tanzania). La prima parte della tesi è stata svolta, con missione sul campo, ad Iringa (Tanzania). In questa fase sono stati raccolti dati riguardanti l'impianto di trattamento delle acque di scarico e sono state analizzate microbiologicamente le acque di falda e reflue. I risultati delle analisi delle acque di falda hanno consentito di valutare il rischio per la salute umana associato all'utilizzo dei servizi igienici di base. I risultati delle analisi delle acque reflue e i dati raccolti hanno permesso lo sviluppo un Sanitation Safety Plant per l'impianto di trattamento che permette la valutazione del rischio associato alle acque reflue e il perfezionamento del protocollo di funzionamento e manutenzione dell'impianto.
