The right to nationality is seen as a basic human right. Citizenship and the privileges that come with it are normally exclusive to those who have a nationality. The options that come with it, such as establishing a bank account or acquiring schooling, are not so obvious to individuals who do not have a nationality. They are 'stateless,' and hence are unable to exercise substantive rights. Although statelessness is a worldwide issue, it is also a concern inside the European Union. Its member countries are home to almost 500,000 stateless people and unfortunately due to many conflicts and wars around the world that number seems to be increasing in the future, especially in case of delay in any actions. This thesis analyses the requirements put on the European Union to act and seeks to discover what tools the Union has available to resolve statelessness. Because there has been little research on this specific problem, this study will add to the body of knowledge and contribute to future research on related themes.

Abstract
Because there has been little research on this specific problem, this study will add to the body of knowledge and contribute to future research on related themes.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
