Direct-on-line synchronous reluctance motor (DOLSynRM) combines the characteristics of synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) and induction motor (IM). This motor can synchronize only a certain kind of load. Therefore, a new design of DOLSynRM has been proposed and analyzed. In this thesis, a brief introduction of finite element method (FEM), induction motor and DOLSynRM theory is described. Afterwards, a comparison between 2D simulation results obtained with different FEM software is reported. Also a comparison between 2D and 3D simulations has been realised. The "pull-in" capabilities of both standard and new design motors have been analyzed by means of 2D simulations. Compared to the conventional DOLSynRM design, the presented new motor shows an increase of "pull-in" capabilities.
