L'invecchiamento in medicina del lavoro: una nuova sfida

The purpose of this work is to describe the issues concerning aging in the workplace and how this is becoming a particularly important current issue due to the lengthening of the average life of the population, especially in industrialized and post-industrialized countries. The main characteristics of this phenomenon will be initially described and analyzed and, subsequently, the epidemiological estimates both worldwide and at national level (in Italy) will be illustrated, with particular attention to any future scenarios. To explain why this phenomenon occurs, the main theories on aging will be enunciated. While in the past the infectious diseases were present in the population at the present time, also due to the lengthening of the average life and an improvement in the hygienic-sanitary conditions, chronic degenerative diseases are more present in the elderly population. The issues concerning "work" and "worker" will be described, citing the main regulations that regulate this context. We will talk about the condition of the elderly worker in the European and national context, describing the main measures proposed and solutions to solve this problem. The condition of the old worker and his transition to retirement are issues of current relevance both from an ethical point of view and from a social and political point of view. In addition, particular care will be devoted to the description of the problems faced by the occupational physician in relation to the elderly worker, further examining the issue of malignant neoplasms and the relative work reintegration of the survivors of the tumor, whether of professional origin or not .

Scopo di questo lavoro è la descrizione delle tematiche riguardanti l’invecchiamento nella realtà lavorativa e di come questa stia diventando un tema attuale particolarmente importante a causa dell’allungamento della vita media della popolazione,soprattutto nei paesi industrializzati e post industrializzati. Verranno inizialmente descritte e analizzate le principali caratteristiche di tale fenomeno e, successivamente, illustrate le stime epidemiologiche sia a livello mondiale sia a livello nazionale (in Italia), con particolare attenzione agli eventuali scenari futuri. Per spiegare il perché avviene tale fenomeno verranno enunciate le principali teorie sull’invecchiamento. Mentre in passato erano maggiormente presenti nella popolazione le malattie infettive attualmente, anche a causa dell’allungamento della vita media e di un miglioramento delle condizioni igienico-sanitarie, sono maggiormente presenti nella popolazione anziana le malattie croniche degenerative. Verranno descritte le tematiche riguardanti il “lavoro” e del ”lavoratore”, citando le principali normative che regolano tale contesto. Si parlerà della condizione del lavoratore anziano in ambito europeo che nazionale descrivendo le principali misure proposte e soluzioni per risolvere tale problematica. La condizione del lavoratore anziano e il suo passaggio al pensionistico sono temi di stretta attualità sia dal punto di vista etico sia dal punto di vista sociale e politico. Inoltre, particolare cura sarà dedicata alla descrizione delle problematiche che si trova ad affrontare il medico del lavoro nei confronti del lavoratore anziano, approfondendo maggiormente il tema delle neoplasie maligne ed il relativo reinserimento lavorativo dei soggetti sopravvissuti al tumore, sia esso di origine professionale o meno.
