The Study of Material Expression Strategies for Regional Architecture from the Perspective of Economy . The Design of SiChuan Museum.

Nowadays,most of the research on “resional architecture” takes into account the influence of natural environment,technical as well as cultural factors, and few from the perspective of economy. However,in the actual cases,the economic level is one of the main limitation factors in architectual creation. Material as a material basis for the building directly affects the regional expression of architecture, but also closely related to the economy of the building. Therefore,under economic constraints, how to express the regionalism of architecture through the use of material，which has material,spiritual as well as timeliness characteristics, is the main thinking of the author. It should be pointed out that the architectural regionalism discussed in this paper is the result of dynamic development in the context of globalization. And building economy is not only the construction cost control, but also from the regional economic and technical conditions. It is the organic coordination of various elements, and achieve comprehensive benefits through the whole life cycle of the building. On this basis, this paper analyzes theories and practices of architectural regionalism, economy as well as material expression at home and abroad. And then classify the use of material under economic consideration as the research framework: material expression under the influence of purchase cost constrains, construction efficiency control and the recycling of material. Moreover, divide them into four parts to discuss the material expression strategies in the regional architecture. The second chapter analyzes cases using cheap traditional or local materials, and focuses on the improvement of material structural potential and physical performance according to the specific construction requirements and geographical factors. In the third chapter, the paper studies cases of the construction by cheap new materials under the circumstance that the traditional materials are no longer suitable, and analyzes the tactics to echo the regional context and the natural environment through the tectonic of materials and atmosphere. In the fourth chapter, the paper discusses cases of material application under a industrialized system to improve the construction efficiency, and focuses on analyzing the strategy of flexible response to specific regional demand through the deformation and localization of the prefabricated module production and industrial construction. In the fifth chapter, this paper studies cases of recycling old materials to realize the sustainable economy. This chapter mainly analyzes the use of new construction technology and the dramatic use of materials, so that the recycled materials meet the requirements of building nowadays under the premise of rehabilitating the regionalism. In conclusion, the author hope that through the analysis of different cases at home and abroad, expanding the understanding of architectural regionalism and material properties, summing up the material using strategies under the perspective of economy. As a result, harmonize regional natural, technical and cultural factors better in the future.
