The paper is essentially divided into two parts, the initial one represents the introduction to the first digital currency, Bitcoin, and to Blockchain technology. The history of BTC, its characteristics and the most significant events both positive and negative will be exposed. Linked to the functioning of digital currencies, the concept of Distributed Ledger Technology will then be introduced in order to approach the Blockchain technology more widely, and then go into more about its functions and the structure of which it is composed. The second part, on the other hand, concerns the financial side of cryptocurrencies, so we will talk about the digital protocol that allowed us to get to this stage, namely Ethereum. The differences between ETH and BTC will be analyzed in order to show why Bitcoin has stopped at the exchange of money while Ethereum also allows decentralized financial instruments to be implemented. Linked to this, digital contracts, decentralized apps and DeFi (Decentralized Finance) will subsequently be introduced. For the latter part, the origins, extent of the phenomenon, limits and risks are described.

Abstract
For the latter part, the origins, extent of the phenomenon, limits and risks are described.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
