The recent covid-19 outbreak has had profound repercussions on the entire world population. Indeed, the pandemic brings with it not only health-related challenges, but also globally impacting social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Nevertheless, from another perspective, this unexpected crisis can be considered as a window of opportunity to rethink the already established business as usual approach and redraw new boundaries. In this regard, a transition towards more sustainable development is considered. The present study investigated the role of memes in financial organizations' systems to evaluate their contribution in supporting more sustainable paradigms. Specifically, a within-case comparison between two German banks (Commerzbank and Aareal Bank) in the pre-covid period (2019) and covid- period (2020) is carried out. Thence, to tackle possible differences has been conducted a qualitative content analysis by analyzing the combined non-financial reports of the banks of the sample. The results reveal the most prominent memes in the two banks in supporting sustainability and the co-occurrences among some of these different organizational memes aiming to provide an inspirational framework to support the evaluation of the status of sustainability in organizations. Key Words: Memes, economic sustainability, organizational meme, COVID-19.
