The degree thesis aims to reconstruct and analyze the life and rise of the Cremona count and knight Broccardo Persico, who lived in the central phase of the 16th century, through archival and bibliographic sources. The thesis is divided into two sections. The first, structured in eight chapters, describes the history of his family from the early Middle Ages to the fifteenth century and all phases of the count's political-military career from 1546 to 1571. From simple captain under Ferrante I Gonzaga to commissioner of Piedmont and Lombardy for Francesco Ferdinando II d'Avalos, from Caesarian ambassador for Philip II in the Rome of Popes Pius IV and Pius V, to Marquis of Cassano d'Adda, without forgetting his participation in the Great Siege of Malta, Broccardo was able to embody the transformations and conflicts of his time, interacting with many of its protagonists. The second section in three chapters reflects on his role as promoter of the Cremona arts, investigating the link with the painter Sofonisba Anguissola and her family, his contribution to the Persico Chapel in the lost Church of San Domenico and the traces of his interventions in his palace cremona, still existing. In conclusion, the content of the thesis represents an articulated and in-depth study of this Cremona character and opens up to further areas of research.
