I servizi igienico-sanitari nei Paesi in via di sviluppo. Analisi delle tecnologie ed analisi di casi di studio.

The thesis is a work of critical analysis of technologies used in developing countries in order to a proper sanitation. In the thesis have been described, analyzed and compared the three main types of latrines (UDDT, pit latrines, pour flush latrines). Subsequently always with a critical eye, we moved to the analysis of systems of emptying, treatment and reuse of sludge. The second part of the work sees the analysis of eight cases of study for each technology, carefully selected. These case studies were compared with each other thanks to a mathematical method, which allow an objective comparison. The thesis is not simply list of technologies, but, thanks to the critical spirit and the many analyzes and comparisons, is a useful reading to be addressed before embarking on a project of sanitation in developing countries. In the thesis the focus was not only on the technical side, but also on the anthropological side considered essential for the success of the project. For the drafting of the thesis have not been analyzed only the various international instruments, but it is also based on interviews with professionals in the sector at EAWAG / Sandec, who provided their experience in the first person.

La tesi è un lavoro critico di analisi delle tecnologie utilizzate nei paesi in via di sviluppo al fine di una corretta sanitation. Nella tesi sono state descritte, analizzate e comparate le tre tipologie principali di latrine (UDDT, pit latrine, pour flush latrine). Successivamente, sempre con spirito critico, si è passati all’analisi dei sistemi di svuotamento, di trattamento e di riutilizzo dei fanghi. La seconda parte del lavoro vede l’analisi di otto casi di studio per ciascuna tecnologia, attentamente selezionati. Questi casi di studio sono stati comparati tra di loro grazie ad un metodo matematico, che permettesse un confronto oggettivo. La tesi non vuole essere solo un elenco di tecnologie, ma, grazie allo spirito critico ed alle numerose analisi e confronti, è un utile lettura da affrontare prima di intraprendere un progetto di sanitation nei paesi in via di sviluppo. Nella tesi non ci si è concentrati solo sulla parte tecnica, ma anche su quella antropologica ritenuta fondamentale per la riuscita del progetto. Al fine della stesura della tesi non sono stati analizzati solo diversi testi internazionali, ma ci si è basati anche su colloqui con professionisti del settore presso EAWAG/SANDEC, i quali hanno fornito la loro esperienza in prima persona.
