Urbanization is a powerful means to promote economic development and social progress. However, in the process of rapid urbanization, the natural environment has also been seriously damaged, followed by a series of problem such as: resource depletion, environmental pollution, ecological degradation. To this end, China vigorously promotes the construction of ecological civilization, and puts forward the concept of building sponge city. On the basis of the previous research and analysis, This paper studied the clauses in "Technical Guidelines for Sponge City Construction" and tries to put forward a low-impact development technology system suitable for the Yangtze River Delta, concerning the local environment. Finally, a practical program design witch located in the Yangtze River Delta region was chosen as a case. Abstract

In this paper the China’s "Technical Guidelines for Sponge City Construction" is the start point. At the same time, some related theories abroad such as: BMP, LID, WSUD, SUDS, GI also been studied. On the basis of understanding their background and development history, This paper compared the advantages and disadvantages of these theories. Meanwhile, This paper also summarized the geographical characteristics, hydrological conditions and climatic characteristics of the Yangtze River Delta, analyzed the necessity and feasibility of the application of sponge city theory in this region. Then I briefly explained the impact of sponge city theory on architecture and its environmental design. During the architectural and environmental design, This paper try my best to practise the low-impact development technology that have been studied, hope to provide some reference for strengthening the construction of sponge cities.
