Innovation in the healthcare system: an analysis of the Italian situation through the word of fifteen managers

The objective of this thesis is to analyze the role of innovation within the National Healthcare System. To achieve this objective, 15 interviews were conducted with General Managers of Italian Hospital Companies, both public and private, located in Lombardy and Emilia Romagna. The transcripts of these interviews form the basis on which the case study was constructed. After a review of the literature in which different aspects of innovation in health care are discussed, referring also to the role it played during the Covid-19 pandemic, a description of the National Health Care System was made. Before proceeding to a discussion of the results of the case study, where the most interesting aspects that emerged from the analysis of the interviews are highlighted, a description of the methodologies used to construct the case study is provided.

L'obbiettivo della tesi è quello analizzare il ruolo dell'innovazione all'interno del Sistema Sanitario Nazionale. Per raggiungere codesto obbiettivo sono state realizzate 15 interviste a Direttori Generali di Aziende Ospedaliere, sia pubbliche che private, situate in Lombardia ed Emilia Romagna. Le trascrizioni delle suddette interviste costituiscono la base sulla quale è stato costruito il case study. Dopo una revisione della letteratura in cui si diversi aspetti dell'innovazione in sanità, facendo riferimento anche al ruolo che ha avuto durante la pandemia Covid-19, è stata realizzata un descrizione del Sistema Sanitario Nazione. Prima di procedere alla discussione dei risultati del case study, dove vengono evidenziati gli aspetti più interessanti emersi dall'analisi delle interviste, viene fornita una descrizione delle metodologie utilizzate per la costruzione del case study.
