This research analyses the representation of second-generation immigrants in the mass media by collecting the life stories of these people through five semi-structured interviews. The framing of second-generation immigrants within mass media discourses has a significant impact upon how they are perceived and received by wider publics and is also shown to impact upon their political participation levels. It is for these reasons that it is of paramount importance to address this issue. Studies with a narrow focus on second-generation immigrants are surprisingly lacking from the academic discourse. This works towards reinforcing a sense of alienation, which is reflected within the personal stories and reflections collected during the interviews conducted for this research. Since they are the citizens of the present and the future, it is urgent to involve second-generation immigrants in society at a political-socio level, to ensure that their voices are validated and incorporated into understandings of integration and inclusivity strategies. The data collected underlines the importance of representation and voice presence within opinion forming media. A more diverse media landscape is needed to represent the complexity of today's social model. The interviews conducted provide an insight into the daily challenges and frustrations of second-generation immigrants, highlighting how negative and stereotypical representations work to reinforce social divides. This study provides a good framework for the issue of representation and highlights the need for a more inclusive orientated media landscape.

Abstract
This study provides a good framework for the issue of representation and highlights the need for a more inclusive orientated media landscape.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
