My thesis work concerns the story of Leone Lattes (1887-1954), a Jewish forensic doctor, psychiatrist and hematologist who trained at the Turin school of Lombroso, analyzed through the use of archival sources, bibliographical material and his publications . The thesis analyzed the different phases of Lattes' life, starting from his training at the Regia University of Turin, under the supervision of Cesare Lombroso and Mario Carrara. The second phase concerns Lattes's enlistment as a war psychiatrist during the First World War, for which an analysis was carried out of the articles he published on the subject, relating them to the thoughts of other psychiatrists of the time and contextualising them with the appropriate bibliography. We then moved on to analyze Lattes' medical production from the early twentieth century to the 1930s, the period in which he served as a professor at the University of Pavia: a particular space was dedicated to texts relating to forensic medicine, hematology and occupational medicine, and two texts that show the author's relationship with the fascist regime. Finally, the story of his expulsion from the University of Pavia following the promulgation of the racial laws was analysed, as was his consequent emigration to Argentina, where he was able to continue his career and where he introduced the blood group identification system, that he had helped to discover. A final space was dedicated to the story of his reinstatement at the Pavia university and his resumption of service as a university professor, as well as to the relationships established with the Argentine medical and cultural world that had hosted him during the six years of exile.
