The paper aims to analyse the relationship between the younger generations and political participation. Starting with an initial sociological analysis of who today's young people are, the context in which they live and the values in which they believe, it goes on to define political participation in its various forms, with particular emphasis on the distinction between conventional and unconventional participation. Space is then left to investigate the behaviour of young people towards the latter dichotomy. Indeed, over time youth political participation has changed: at present young people are moving further and further away from traditional forms of participation (political parties and elections) to approach unconventional forms of political participation such as demonstrations, sit-ins, flash mobs and online petitions. In particular, a strong environmentalist sensibility is highlighted among young people, which translates into participation in strikes and acts of non-violent civil disobedience against the inaction of political institutions towards the climate emergency. So environmental activism, through movements such as Fridays For Future and Last Generation, appears to be the most appropriate in attracting young people to political participation.

Abstract
So environmental activism, through movements such as Fridays For Future and Last Generation, appears to be the most appropriate in attracting young people to political participation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
