The aim of the study presented in this paper is to investigate the role of attachment disorganization and role reversal in the development of narcissism (grandiose or vulnerable) in emerging adults. In addition, it investigated whether the relationship between disorganization and role reversal experienced in childhood and narcissism is mediated by less adaptive global defensive functioning. The sample consisted of 451 young adults between the ages of 18 and 29, who responded to the Childhood Disorganization and Role Reversal Scale (CDRR) to assess role reversal, the Defense Mechanisms Rating Scales - Self Report - 30 (DMRS-SR-30), to assess global defensive functioning, and the Pathological Narcissism Inventory (PNI), to assess narcissism. The results of this study showed that there is a significant direct relationship between maternal and paternal role reversal and narcissism, and that the effect mediated by less mature defensive functioning does not occur in grandiose narcissism but only in vulnerable narcissism. Future research could combine self-report questionnaires with in-depth interviews (such as the AAI) to gain a more complete understanding of the phenomena studied.

Abstract
Future research could combine self-report questionnaires with in-depth interviews (such as the AAI) to gain a more complete understanding of the phenomena studied.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
