The US and Iran: An Analytically Eclectic Research on Economic Sanctions

In 2018 the Trump Administration withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, a multilateral international agreement adopted in 2015 meant to regulate and monitor Iran's nuclear research program in exchange for economic sanctions relief. After the Trump administration withdrew from the deal, a new round of economic sanctions was imposed and a new strategy was laid down by the administration. In this piece of work we will analyze how economic sanctions effectiveness is influenced by discourse and ideology by looking at presidential and ideologues speeches. To analyze this case an eclectic modus operandi is selected to integrate different islands of knowledge produced on topics of negotiations, economic sanctions and discourse analysis.
