“Glottolab: A Linguistic Adventure” is a game-based learning activity related to the language world, created using RPG Maker MZ. The game introduces players to the world of linguistics, encouraging reflection on the structure and concrete uses of language. The primary goal of this activity is to foster metalinguistic awareness and overcome the prescriptive approach employed in high school language teaching. In the game, players assume the role of a young student named Feature, who returns to Logos to visit family and friends, only to find that the native language of the town has been stolen and broken apart. Players embark on a journey through five realms that represent the five levels of linguistic analysis, where they solve puzzles to gather different language elements and reconstruct the language of Logos. Sixteen participants were recruited to play the game. Experimental results suggest that Glottolab could serve as an effective educational tool for learning linguistics, though some game elements and mechanics require refinement. The user experience enhances engagement and motivation, yet the integration of AI systems has not shown to add significant educational value.
