After an incredible growth, that have seen the cryptocurrencies’ value quadrupling, in the last years it is always more significant and worrying the energetic problem that they are causing. This situation has attracted the attention of a lot of critics from the financial world, but even of some governments, prominent personalities and foundations as Greenpeace, that led to an amazing decrease of the cryptocurrencies’ value. The aim of this study is to analyze the energetic impact of the cryptocurrencies, starting from their origins and goals to how they work and the possible solutions to solve this important issue. In this regard, the question of the research is the following: is the cryptocurrencies’ value influenced by energetic indexes like oil or natural gas? Does it change something between green cryptocurrencies and traditional cryptocurrencies? And from the outbreak of the Ukraine war has something changed? To answer these questions, I have done some correlational analysis, taking into consideration three traditional cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin), three green cryptocurrencies (Cardano, Ripple and Solana) and two energetic indexes (oil and natural gas), initially for the last two years, then only for the Ukraine war period. For the total-period, there are not significant correlations between none of the cryptocurrencies, green or traditional, with the energetic indexes. Instead, it results that cryptocurrencies are still strongly correlated with themselves even if they are two distinct typologies. However, for the Ukraine war period it results that there is not a direct correlation between green cryptocurrencies with the traditional ones. In addition, there is a strong positive correlation between Cardano, a green cryptocurrency, and oil. This means that when the oil price rises, even Cardano price rises and it also means that with the energy crisis occurred after the start of the war, green cryptocurrencies has reacted better to this situation, trying to not being correlated to the traditional cryptocurrencies, in particular Bitcoin that had a big decrease. For this reason, it is possible to say that green cryptocurrencies will have a bright future that will bring them to be the most important cryptocurrencies and, consequently, if the traditional ones will not adapt, they are destinated to disappear.

Abstract
For this reason, it is possible to say that green cryptocurrencies will have a bright future that will bring them to be the most important cryptocurrencies and, consequently, if the traditional ones will not adapt, they are destinated to disappear.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
