Abstract: Background: Interoception, refers to the representationof internal world or the internal state of the body, is known to influence not only the sunjective emotional experience but also our risk-taking behaviors. Smoking is often engaged in risk-taking behaviours, and may have altered interoceptive processing, yet the relationship between interoception awareness and risk-taking in this population remains underexplored. Objective: This study aims to investigate the role of interoceptive accuracy and interoceptive awareness (high and low) in risk-taking behaviors among traditional and non-traditional, frequent and occasional smokers. The research hypotheses that smokers may have distinct interoceptive profiles that influence their propensity for risk-taking processes. Methods: A population of 30 adult participants (male and female) under the age of 35 was recruited for this study. Participants underwent a series of interoceptive accuracy assessments, including heartbeat detection tasks and self- report Questionnaire such as Multidimensional Assesment of Intercoceptive Awarness (MAIA) and sensation seeking scale (SSS) and to assess their risk taking behavior were evaluated using standardised behavioural tasks, such as the urns (Balls and Urns) and the Balloon Analogue Risk Task. Potential Implications: This study seeks to elucidate the potential link between interceptive processing and risk-related behavior among smokers. By identifying distinct interoceptive patterns, the findings could contribute to better understanding the underpinnings of addiction and risk behaviors. Such insights may inform the development of targeted interventions aimed at improving interceptive awareness and potentially reducing risky behaviors associated with smoking. Conclusion: The outcomes of this research are expected to provide new perspectives on the role of interception in addiction and risk taking. Future research directions include exploring interceptive training as a potential therapeutic approach for individuals with high-risk behaviors.
