The present work aims at offering an overview of The Last Roundup, a trilogy written by the Irish author Roddy Doyle and composed of A Star Called Henry (1999), Oh, Play That Thing! (2004) and The Dead Republic (2004). The trilogy is centred on Henry Smart, whose adventures intertwine with some of the most important events of recent Irish history. The analysis is divided in two parts. The first one contains an introduction to Revisionism, a cultural movement that offers an alternative approach to the dominant interpretation of the events that led to the birth of the Irish Republic, and to which Doyle’s works can be ascribed. Subsequently, the main features of the author’s prose are outlined through the analysis of a selection from his vast bibliography, with the intent to trace some recurring elements, such as the co-presence of different media in Doyle’s literary universe, his commentary on Irish society, his critical approach to the idea of Irishness and the use of humour as a revisionist instrument. In the second part, after a synopsis of the events described in The Last Roundup, the topics previously highlighted are traced in the trilogy and analysed. In addition, the supernatural elements recognizable in the work – which allow the trilogy to be considered a work of magical historicism – are analysed.
The Last Roundup, dell’autore irlandese Roddy Doyle, composta dai volumi A Star Called Henry (1999), Oh, Play That Thing! (2004) e The Dead Republic (2010).

Abstract
In addition, the supernatural elements recognizable in the work – which allow the trilogy to be considered a work of magical historicism – are analysed.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
