Whatever Happened to the DCEU? Analisi critica di un franchise tra logiche di mercato e instabilità narrativa.

The superhero movie is one of the most significant cinematic phenomena of recent years: within the span of a decade, it went from being a rarely explored genre to the most profitable in Hollywood history, thanks to the productions of Marvel Studios. In this context, the films produced by Warner Brothers based on DC characters have instead become known for their poor critical and box office performances. This work aims to reconstruct the production history and narrative issues surrounding DC films from the past 20 years, with particular focus on the DCEU period (2013–2023), in order to understand the reasons behind Warner Brothers' repeated failures.

Il superhero movie è uno dei fenomeni cinematografici più importanti degli ultimi anni: nel giro di un decennio è passato da essere un genere poco praticato, a quello più remunerativo nella storia di Hollywood grazie alla produzione dei Marvel Studios. In questo contesto, i film prodotti da Warner Brothers basati sui personaggi della DC sono invece noti per i loro risultati negativi di critica e di box office. Questo lavoro si propone di ricostruire le vicende produttive e le questioni narrative attorno ai film DC degli ultimi 20 anni, con particolare attenzione al periodo del DCEU (2013-2023), per capire quali siano state le cause dietro ai ripetuti fallimenti di Warner Brothers.
