The mass of the W boson is one of the key parameters of the Standard Model, providing crucial information for testing its internal consistency and overall validity. Its determination relies also on hadron collider measurements, where effects related to nucleon structure and Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) corrections play a central role. In recent years, advances in nucleon tomography have considerably improved our knowledge of the partonic structure of the proton. Nevertheless, the role of the intrinsic transverse momentum of quarks has not been explored in detail in precision measurements such as those of the W boson mass. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the impact of different parameterizations of transverse-momentum-dependent distributions (TMDs) on the extraction of the W boson mass. While many existing studies have relied on parameterizations of transverse momentum that are insensitive to the quark flavor, recent results suggest that flavour-dependent effects may not be negligible and therefore deserve closer attention. For this reason, both flavour-independent and flavour-dependent scenarios are considered in this work. This thesis does not claim to provide a final answer to the problem, but rather to contribute to the ongoing investigation by assessing the potential size and relevance of TMD-related effects in W mass determinations, in the context of both past and future research.

Abstract
This thesis does not claim to provide a final answer to the problem, but rather to contribute to the ongoing investigation by assessing the potential size and relevance of TMD-related effects in W mass determinations, in the context of both past and future research.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
