This thesis examines sports tourism’s role in sustainable development through economic, socio-political, and environmental lenses. Using a PRISMA-ScR scoping review, it analyzes literature on conceptual definitions, impacts, and geographical variations across event scales. Findings reveal sports tourism’s growing economic and political significance while highlighting disparities in other development outcomes. The study identifies research gaps and offers recommendations for future research, emphasizing the need for balanced growth that integrates socio-cultural benefits and environmental sustainability.
