In everyday life there are a variety of situations that require the use of decision-making and also risk-taking. All situations differ as to whether they will have positive or negative outcomes and the probability of them generating rewards or punishments. Decision-making, and how it works in relation to other factors, has been under the attention of the neuropsychological spotlight for many decades. In particular, research aims to assess how decision-making and risk-taking function in relation to other affective states, specifically anxiety, depression and interoception. We were able to assess this correlation by measuring the participant’s risk-taking propensity during the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) and by asking them to answer short questionnaires. In the following research we summarise previous studies that investigated the role of anxiety, depression and interoception on decision-making and risk-taking and further examine how the interaction between these internal factors affects risk-taking during situations in which rewards and punishment are not explicit.
