Based on the temporal limits defined by the national legislation, this thesis focuses on cinema theatres in Italy from their origins up to 1980, analyzing their architectural, functional, and stylistic evolution. The first chapter reconstructs their history, identifying the main trends and presenting some significant examples. The second part examines Italian legislation on the protection of historic cinema halls, outlining the steps that led to their gradual recognition and the provisions currently in force. The third chapter presents the case of Cinema America, from its founding as Teatro Lamarmora to the post-war renovation interventions, highlighting its architectural developments and the preservation issues that have recently drawn attention. The thesis also includes an appendix dedicated to designers of cinema theatres active in Italy, providing an overview of the professionals who contributed to the development of this typology. The study demonstrates how architectural analysis can complement the perspectives of New Cinema History, clarifying the relationship between built space, technical function, and cultural practices.

Abstract
The study demonstrates how architectural analysis can complement the perspectives of New Cinema History, clarifying the relationship between built space, technical function, and cultural practices.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
