Interest in the study of discourse markers has led linguists to study their classification and their different semantic-pragmatic functions. This subject has been extensively studied in the Italian context by Bazzanella (1985) and in the Spanish context by Zorraquino and Portolés (1999). The latter have proposed a classification into macrofunctions of Spanish discourse markers that has been chosen as a point of reference for this paper. Following a disclaimer, the participants’ personal data and consent for the processing of the same were collected. Data collection was carried out by searching for discourse markers in the conversations of five WhatsApp groups of the Philology degree course at the Complutense University of Madrid. The results of the analysis of twenty-five discourse markers present in the corpus outlined their distribution and frequency of use among Spanish university students. In general, their usage according to the functions proposed by the taxonomy was confirmed, while in other cases, the relative functions were reexamined and new discourse markers were presented.

Abstract
In general, their usage according to the functions proposed by the taxonomy was confirmed, while in other cases, the relative functions were reexamined and new discourse markers were presented.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
