The purpose of this discussion is to examine the issue of microaggressions on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA) people in Healthcare. Healthcare professionals are not always adequately prepared to deal with the specific issues faced by LGBTQIA people or they eventually deal with these in an offensive or judgmental manner. This becomes a source of considerable stress that can develop into further health and psychological burden for this population. In the first chapter, the basic knowledge and conditions necessary for a full understanding of the elaborate are provided. The following chapter describes the way in which microaggressions work, through examining their causes and consequences with the help of lived experiences of healthcare users; the last section specifically addresses those issues faced in psychological practice. Finally, the last chapter presents guidelines based on current scientific literature and on the directives of the American Psychological Association (APA) for working with LGBT people, aimed at delivering an informed and effective care, avoiding discriminatory situations and behaviours. Research about LGBTQIA in healthcare is still insufficient, with particular regard to intersex and asexual identities. Therefore, future studies should explore this topic with the help of quantitative tests in order to consider a greater number of data and gain more accurate information.

Abstract
Therefore, future studies should explore this topic with the help of quantitative tests in order to consider a greater number of data and gain more accurate information.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
