Nowadays the utilization of base isolation systems has gained interest in modern structural engineering field, aimed at mitigating the impact of seismic hazard on buildings and infrastructures. The main purpose of this practical dissertation is to present a comprehensive comparative analysis for a case of study of a hospital located in Costa Rica, between international standards specifically using sliding pendulum isolators. The standard of our interest is the United States standard such as ASCE/SEI 7-22 and AASHTO Guide Specification for Seismic Isolation Desing 2014, and European standards as the EN 15129, EN 1337, and EN 1998-1 (Eurocode 8 – EC8). The study case adopts the Equivalent Linear Analysis method as prescribed by the EC8, and the Equivalent Lateral Force procedure from ASCE/SEI 7-22, using the seismic action defined through the acceleration response spectrum of the Costa Rican 2010 seismic code (CSCR-10). Nevertheless, this method is one of the basic systems to analyze a base isolated structure. However, there are limitations on considering the application of the equivalent linear analysis, for example the isolation system may be model with an equivalent viscos-elastic behavior, which is possible with the Sliding Pendulum Isolators. Its importance to mention that this method is a simple method but will be useful in the selection of the optimized isolation system, and it should be always advised to perform it before analyzing the structure with more advanced methods. Therefore, these sophisticated methods are out of the scope of this work. After obtaining the optimized parameters of the friction pendulum system, the detailed design of the isolators will be based on the approach of each standard of the international standards previously mentioned. This is referring on the check requirements such as the self-recentering capability, type testing key test, deformation verification and the verification of the requirements of the partially load on the pedestal of concrete where the isolators will be assumed to be installed.

Abstract
This is referring on the check requirements such as the self-recentering capability, type testing key test, deformation verification and the verification of the requirements of the partially load on the pedestal of concrete where the isolators will be assumed to be installed.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
