Introduction. Social isolation is a complex phenomenon that significantly impacts the lives of those affected, particularly during adolescence. Recent studies confirm the growing prevalence of this phenomenon internationally and highlight the need for greater attention from clinicians. The existing literature on this phenomenon is still limited, and several authors emphasize the lack of a shared definition and guidelines for intervention and treatment. Method. In this study, a survey was conducted among healthcare professionals working in the Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry Units (UONPIA) of the Lombardy Region with the aim of reaching a consensus on guidelines for intervention and care for adolescents with social isolation. The study was organized in three phases and the Delphi methodology was used for the survey, an iterative technique that allowed for a structured investigation of professionals' opinions on the subject and the gradual achievement of consensus. Results: Consistency emerged between the different points of view of professionals regarding their clinical experience of social isolation, which helped to outline a consensus on the best courses of action and the resources needed in a Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry Unit to address the problem of social isolation in adolescence. Almost all participants (92.7%) reported the absence of specific diagnostic protocols in their UONPIA for social isolation in adolescence, as well as the absence of specific intervention protocols, reported by the vast majority of participants (83.6%). The progressive consensus among professionals made it possible to outline a ranking of the best intervention pathways and resources that a UONPIA should have at its disposal to address the problem of social isolation in adolescents. Conclusions: The study has contributed to expanding knowledge of the phenomenon of social isolation and has been included in the existing literature as a first step towards the implementation of future interventions that are effective and based on the experience of professionals. Keywords: social isolation, adolescents, intervention and care guidelines, resources, consensus
Introduzione.
