Palazzo Oldofredi-Tadini Botti a Torre Pallavicina

This thesis examines Palazzo Oldofredi Tadini Botti in Torre Pallavicina, highlighting the lack of previous comprehensive studies despite its historical and architectural importance in the Lower Bergamo plain. The research aims to reconstruct the building’s history by analyzing its ownership over time, architectural transformations, and interior fresco decorations. It also provides the first systematic study of the sixteenth-century fresco cycle, contributing to a better understanding of the palace’s cultural value. The study begins with the historical context of the Calciana, a strategic border area between the Duchy of Milan and the Republic of Venice, tracing its development from Roman times through the Middle Ages. The palace is linked to Tristano Sforza in the fifteenth century and later passed through several noble families, including the Pallavicino, Oldofredi, and Botti. Architecturally, the building evolved from a defensive structure into an aristocratic residence, showing a complex stratification of interventions. The frescoes, dating to around the 1540s, feature Mannerist motifs, mythological subjects, and landscape views. Overall, the thesis represents the first systematic study of the palace and provides a foundation for future research and preservation efforts.

La tesi analizza Palazzo Oldofredi Tadini Botti a Torre Pallavicina, evidenziando come, nonostante la sua importanza storica e architettonica nella Bassa Bergamasca, mancasse finora uno studio sistematico. L’obiettivo principale è ricostruire la storia dell’edificio, i passaggi di proprietà, le trasformazioni architettoniche e il ciclo di affreschi interni. Il lavoro parte dal contesto storico della Calciana, area di confine tra Ducato di Milano e Repubblica di Venezia, segnata da trasformazioni economiche e sociali dal Medioevo all’età moderna. Il palazzo ha origine nel Quattrocento, probabilmente per volontà di Tristano Sforza, come residenza aristocratica. Nel tempo passò a importanti famiglie nobiliari, tra cui i Pallavicino, gli Oldofredi e infine i Botti. L’edificio si è evoluto da struttura difensiva a dimora di rappresentanza, con una complessa stratificazione architettonica. Particolare rilievo è dato agli affreschi cinquecenteschi, caratterizzati da motivi manieristi, soggetti mitologici e vedute, finora poco studiati. La tesi rappresenta quindi un primo contributo organico alla conoscenza del palazzo, utile per futuri studi e per la sua valorizzazione culturale.
