Il ruolo della pesca a Pavia tra Cinquecento e Seicento

My thesis, Fishing in the Pavia Area between the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries, examines the exploitation of fishery resources in the territory of Pavia between the 16th and 17th centuries, situating the study within the field of environmental history. The research explores the relationship between local communities, institutions, and the riverine environment, with particular attention to the economic, legal, and social dynamics connected to fishing practices. Through the analysis of archival sources — including administrative records and normative acts — the study reconstructs the management of waterways and fishing rights. The investigation highlights how fluvial resources played a central role in the economy and territorial balance of the Pavia area. It also reveals conflicts, regulations, and strategies of control that reflect a growing concern for the protection and governance of natural resources. Ultimately, the thesis demonstrates how fishing provides a valuable lens through which to understand the interactions between society, power, and the environment in the early modern period.

La mia tesi "Pesca nel territorio pavese tra Cinquecento e Seicento" analizza le pratiche di sfruttamento delle risorse ittiche nel contesto del territorio di Pavia tra XVI e XVII secolo, inserendosi nel quadro degli studi sulla storia ambientale. La ricerca esamina il rapporto tra comunità locali, istituzioni e ambiente fluviale, con particolare attenzione alle dinamiche economiche, normative e sociali legate alla pesca. Attraverso l’analisi di fonti d’archivio — tra cui documentazione amministrativa e atti normativi — il lavoro ricostruisce le modalità di gestione delle acque e dei diritti di pesca. L’indagine mette in luce come le risorse fluviali costituissero un elemento centrale nell’economia e negli equilibri territoriali dell’area pavese. Emergono inoltre conflitti, regolamentazioni e strategie di controllo che testimoniano una crescente attenzione alla tutela e alla gestione delle risorse naturali. La tesi evidenzia infine come la pesca rappresenti un osservatorio privilegiato per comprendere le interazioni tra società, potere e ambiente in età moderna.
