Brownfield sites represent a strategic resource for contemporary urban regeneration. This thesis analyses the potential of former industrial buildings as spaces suitable for adaptive reuse, highlighting how their scale and urban location favour the establishment of new cultural functions. The aim is to demonstrate how the transformation of such buildings into cultural centres can contribute to the enhancement of historical and industrial heritage, the social revitalisation of urban contexts, and the creation of new places for people to gather. The research begins with an analysis of the industrialisation process in Lombardy and the phenomenon of industrial decommissioning in Lombardy, the province of Pavia and the city of Pavia. It then explores the theme of adaptive reuse, comparing various intervention strategies with the alternative of demolition and analysing case studies of industrial buildings converted into cultural centres. The focus then shifts to the urban context of Pavia and the former Hartmann-Guarneri industrial complex, through an examination of its history, existing documentation and the characteristics of the surrounding area. The research culminates in a proposal for the regeneration and repurposing of the former plant as a new cultural centre, outlining the key compositional and technological choices made. Through the integration of historical analysis, contextual study and architectural design, the thesis demonstrates how the regeneration of industrial heritage can serve as an effective tool for preserving the memory of places and promoting new cultural and social opportunities for the contemporary city.

Abstract
Through the integration of historical analysis, contextual study and architectural design, the thesis demonstrates how the regeneration of industrial heritage can serve as an effective tool for preserving the memory of places and promoting new cultural and social opportunities for the contemporary city.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
