This paper analyses the equity method not merely as an accounting technique for measuring investments in associates, but as an advanced tool for representing economic value and corporate relationships. The method overcomes the historical cost approach by dynamically reflecting changes in the net assets of investee companies, thus providing a more substantive and up-to-date view of investment performance. The study examines the legal and accounting foundations for its application, which are linked to the existence of significant influence or joint control, highlighting its informational role within both separate and consolidated financial statements. Particular attention is given to its relevance in understanding corporate groups, assessing going concern, and early identifying financial distress. Finally, the research shows that, although the equity method is a key instrument in investment valuation, it may present limitations in distressed situations, requiring integration with additional valuation and reporting tools such as impairment testing and enhanced financial disclosure.

Abstract
Finally, the research shows that, although the equity method is a key instrument in investment valuation, it may present limitations in distressed situations, requiring integration with additional valuation and reporting tools such as impairment testing and enhanced financial disclosure.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
