The study examines the role of generational stereotypes in the managerial relationship, investigating their influence on managers' expectations and on the feedback provided to collaborators. The model treats expectations as a possible mechanism through which stereotypes affect feedback, differentiated into a constructive and a destructive component. The study adopts an experimental survey design with vignettes referring to Generation Z, Millennials, Generation X, and Baby Boomers, involving 94 Italian managers. The hypotheses were tested through Structural Equation Modeling and bootstrap resampling based on 5,000 replications. The results show a significant effect of stereotype on expectations, but reveal neither an effect of expectations on feedback nor an indirect effect through this mechanism. A direct effect of stereotype on constructive feedback does emerge, however, while the effect on destructive feedback is not significant. Overall, the findings suggest that generational stereotypes may influence managerial practices even without necessarily operating through the mechanism of expectations. Keywords: generational stereotype; managerial expectations; constructive feedback; destructive feedback; Structural Equation Modeling
