Parentification is a developmental violation of a child that leads to a distortion of emotional regulation techniques and severe issues in adulthood. This study explores the lived experiences of eldest daughters in CIS countries during both childhood and adulthood, examining the influence of historical trauma and emotional regulation strategies. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), qualitative interviews were conducted to investigate their past experiences and current lives. The findings show that eldest daughters recognized their experience only after reaching adulthood, as parentification was heavily normalized in society, alongside an acknowledgment of historical legacies. Concerning emotional regulation strategies, participants displayed distorted techniques focused on soothing others rather than themselves; for self-soothing, they rely mostly on co-regulation. Eldest daughters also exhibited signs of extensive guilt, shame, an inability to relax, and hypervigilance, while frequently sharing a constant feeling of injustice. Finally, the study supports the concept of three-generation trauma recovery, as participants demonstrated a deep understanding of their past and a strong willingness to change for their future children. Abstract
