This research analyses the evolution of Japan's grand strategy by evaluating how it’s contemporary economic security policy intersects with historical foreign policy frameworks and it is achieved by examining recent policy shifts as well as the changing geopolitical dynamics in the Indo-Pacific. My research argues that modern economic security functions as a strategic adaptation of the Yoshida Doctrine that allows Japan to adopt a more proactive defensive position without abandoning the pragmatic foundations of this doctrine.
