This thesis investigates the compactification of Teichmüller space of a closed surface using the theory of geodesic currents, an approach introduced by Francis Bonahon. Teichmüller space parameterizes all hyperbolic metrics on a closed surface up to isotopy. By defining geodesic currents as invariant measures on the space of geodesics of the hyperbolic plane, Bonahon's framework creates a unified space where simple closed curves, hyperbolic metrics, and measured laminations coexist. Within this setting, a bilinear form, called the intersection form, generalizes both curve lengths and geometric intersection numbers between curves. Compactifying Teichmüller space is crucial for analyzing the asymptotic degenerations of hyperbolic metrics when curve lengths shrink or grow at infinity. By associating each hyperbolic metric with its Liouville current, Teichmüller space embeds naturally into the projectivized space of geodesic currents. This construction yields a compactification whose ideal boundary is naturally identified with the space of projective measured laminations, recovering Thurston's classical compactification of Teichmüller space.

Abstract
This construction yields a compactification whose ideal boundary is naturally identified with the space of projective measured laminations, recovering Thurston's classical compactification of Teichmüller space.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
