In this thesis, we sought to analyse the conflicting relationship between human and artificial intelligence through the lens provided by science fiction cinema. To what extent do authors, screenwriters and directors (who in the conception of the film have the opportunity to consult researchers and experts) manage to read the theme projected into the future? Many movies, as we know, have been prescient. How have science fiction films, and the vision of filmmakers, helped in the change and evolution of public sentiment on the issue? Over the years, the idea of artificial intelligence being able to take over from humans has been widely circulated. Part of the public opinion seems to be convinced and influenced by it, but is this scientifically possible? In order to answer the following three research questions, we have structured this thesis work into four chapters, each corresponding to one of the different seasons in the evolution of artificial intelligence and film history. The films, produced over the course of different seasons, through which the analysis of different forms of artificial intelligence was made, are as follows: 2001: Space Odyssey produced by Stanley Kubrick (1968); Terminator produced by James Cameron (1986); Transcendence produced by Wally Pfister (2014) and, finally The Creator produced by Gareth Edwards (2023).

Abstract
The films, produced over the course of different seasons, through which the analysis of different forms of artificial intelligence was made, are as follows: 2001: Space Odyssey produced by Stanley Kubrick (1968); Terminator produced by James Cameron (1986); Transcendence produced by Wally Pfister (2014) and, finally The Creator produced by Gareth Edwards (2023).È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
