Robinson Crusoe is one of the most read novels by generations. Considered escapist literature and fascinating myth for many, the novel has always given considerable literary ideas during the following centuries it was published. In the twentieth century among the many voices there was one of those who considered something more than just a novel of adventure and was the German Ulrich Broich critic who saw it probably belonged to science fiction. This thesis has the objective to investigate whether it is possible to ascribe Robinson Crusoe to the genre of the eighteenth-century science fiction as a forerunner or as an important contribution to the genre. This idea stems from the hypothesis that certain characteristics of the novel, such as loneliness faced by the protagonist Crusoe and the ability not only to adapt but especially the construction of an own world on a desert island, could be read as something other than a utopia.
