The research carried out in this dissertation aims at addressing, in general, the issues related to the processes of internationalization of enterprises in foreign countries, and, specifically, aims at identifying and analysing the strategies developed and used by two big Italian enterprises operating in the international markets of packaging and industrial production of valves and actuators for oil and gas industry and water control systems industry. The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the role of three key concepts in the fields of international entrepreneurship and international business, that are agility, flexibility and resilience, through two case study analyses aimed at, on the basis of information provided by the two companies, individuating and investigating the strategies that they used in their own processes of penetration of international markets, with the aim of identifying the factors that allowed them to become leader players at global level in their own fields of expertise. The methodology used for the drafting of this thesis comprises, on one hand, a bibliographic research based on literature review, such as articles and books, that aims at introducing and describing the key concepts at the basis of the research and aims at providing a snapshot of the manufacturing industrial sectors in which the two companies objects of the case study analyses operate, and, on the other hand, a qualitative analysis made of two case studies, aimed at specifically analysing the strategies adopted by the two Italian companies in their own internationalization processes, thanks to information and data provided by the representatives of the enterprises and information taken from their official channels. In the end, the study has demonstrated the fundamental and essential importance of strategies based on the concepts of agility, flexibility, and resilience in the internationalization processes, together with the development of dynamic capabilities that allowed the companies to expand their business activities beyond national borders, and to compete at global level, thanks to high-quality products, with the bigs of their sectors.
Il lavoro di ricerca svolto in questa tesi mira ad affrontare, in linea generale, le tematiche relative ai processi di internazionalizzazione di imprese all’estero, e nello specifico, mira ad individuare e ad analizzare le strategie sviluppate ed attuate da due grandi imprese Italiane operanti nei mercati internazionali del packaging e della produzione industriale di valvole e attuatori destinati ai settori petrolifero, del gas naturale e dell’acqua. Lo scopo della tesi è quello di analizzare il ruolo svolto da tre concetti chiave nel settore dell’imprenditorialità e del business internazionale, ovvero agilità, flessibilità e resilienza, attraverso due casi studi finalizzati, sulla base di informazioni fornite dalle due aziende, ad individuare e ad indagare le strategie utilizzate da esse nei propri processi di penetrazione nei mercati internazionali, con lo scopo di individuare i fattori che hanno permesso loro di diventare leader a livello globale nei reciprochi settori di competenza. La metodologia utilizzata per la stesura di questa tesi comprende, da un lato, una ricerca bibliografica effettuata attraverso l’ausilio di testi ed articoli, che mira ad introdurre e a descrivere i concetti chiave alla base della ricerca e a fornire una panoramica delle industrie in cui operano le due imprese oggetto di analisi, e, dall’altro, di una analisi qualitativa ovvero due casi studio, mirati ad analizzare nello specifico le strategie messe in campo dalle due imprese Italiane nel loro processo di internazionalizzazione, grazie ad informazioni e dati forniti dai rappresentanti delle aziende stesse e da informazioni tratte dai canali ufficiali delle medesime. Lo studio ha dimostrato, infine, la fondamentale ed essenziale importanza di strategie basate sui concetti di agilità, flessibilità e resilienza nei processi di internazionalizzazione, unito allo sviluppo di capacità dinamiche che hanno permesso alle due aziende di ampliare le proprie attività oltre i confini nazionali, e di competere attraverso prodotti di alta qualità con i big del settore a livello mondiale.
