Technology is advancing faster today than even before, so IT becomes an essential factor in strategic development and increasing performances of any organizations (Gheorghe, 2010). For this reason, several methodologies and standards have been designed to help IT Governance within organizations. Among these, the most famous are ITIL, SAFe, ISO, COBIT, Zachman Framework and TOGAF. All these frameworks provide essential guidelines, including addressing the management of extraordinary situations. But to what extent these models can be useful and exhaustive when a calamity such as Covid-19 pandemic occurs? When a crisis has the scale of a pandemic, every organization must adapt itself to the “new reality”, often without the guidance of specific best-practices to follow. Indeed, the objective of this dissertation is to answer to the following question: which impact did Covid-19 have on the IT governance of major Italian financial services institutions? To answer the question of research, an online survey has been designed and shared with several experts of financial services working for Accenture S.p.A. The questionnaire investigates how companies managed their IT governance in a context that is evolving towards remote working, which short-term actions were implemented and which may be the structural evolutions pushed by the pandemic. The results show that the challenges brought about by Covid-19 affected most companies’ technology strategy and will further impact organizational models and processes in the near future. On this basis, Covid-19 pandemic appears as an accelerator for new IT Governance frameworks, representing a chance of evolution and innovation for companies.
